Theatre in Shakespeare's Day [p. 684]

  • In the 1590's, Shakespeare's theater group called the Lord Chamberlain's Men.
  • The new London home of the group was a place called the Globe Theatre.
  • When Queen Elizabeth I died, the group's new sponsor was King James I and the group changed it's name to the King's Men.
  • The Globe Theatre was located on the banks of the Thames River.
  • The theatre was 3 stories, made of wood, and could hold as many as 3,000 spectators. Customers, called groundlings stood on the pit by the stage and paid the lowest price for admission. Richer patrons sat in balconies, also called inner galleries.
  • Most theatres in that day had no artifial lighting or heating, so performances were given in daylight in warmer weather.

Most commonly quoted phrases came from Shakespeare's plays. Some examples are:

"To be or not to be" from Hamlet

Are we victims of fate or can we create our own destiny? 200 Word Response

I think that things just happen sometimes, and there isn't anything you can do about it. Although, you can set yourself up for your future. It is just based on the decisions you make. Fate is, what happens no matter what. For example, when two people that do not know each other, fall in love, it is fate that brought them together. When someone says, "create you own destiny", it's possible. If you do all your work in school, pay attention, and make good grades you will graduate and then move on to college. After college, you will have opportunities to fullfill your career and make good money. If you play around in school and don't do anything, you are more than likely will not graduate. You will not go to college, you will probably end up being a drop out. Fate is what you can not control, it just happens. Sometimes your fate will change whether you make good or bad decisions. I think that we shouldn't try to plan our futures, it just takes the fun out of living. You should live your life to the fullest and have no regrets. Of course, that does not mean break all the rules. It just means, have fun and make your life worth living.

Lord of the Flies Blog Response 2 (300-400 words)

Good or Bad

A lot of the time you will hear people going around and saying that someone is bad, for something that they did. In my opinion, no that is not true. Nobody is really good or bad, it is all about the choices that they made. If you choose to do drugs, then people will think badly about you. On the other hand, if you choose not to, people think you are good. It is also a matter of how you represent yourself. If you do not take care of yourself, people notice and tend to talk. Teenagers love to gossip! It is just what they do, but does that really make them bad people? No, it doesn't really, although it is not a good decision to talk about other people.

Every person will make their share of bad decisions, even if it is little ones. There is still good in everyone. In the Lord of the Flies, you see Ralph who really wants to be organized and keep order on the Island. He tries to instill good, even in bad times. His main focus is to protect and keep the boys as safe as possible. Piggy, also tries to see the good in everyone. Always willing to help the littluns. He and Ralph try to keep the camp organized and under certain laws, as their main goal is to be rescued. Jack, on the other hand lets fear overcome him. Therefore, the choices he makes turns him into a bad person. Hunting consumes him, as he thrives for the kill. He forms his own tribe and turns them against the others. Jack's fear of not ever being rescued allowed terrible things to happen and let death come to some.

In our society today, people in general love to judge. Are people essentially bad or essentially good? Choices they make determine that...not the actual person. Every person possesses good and bad, its nature. In the past fifty years, we have seen our World Trade Center go down (911), it was a result of people fearing the United States and what we represent. Fear, causes people to loose focus and do terrible things. However, in the last fifty years we see our own community come together and raise thousands of dollars to help find a cure and raise awareness of cancer. People loving one another and putting differences aside and helping.

You know the old saying, "You can't judge a book by its cover"? It's true! You should not judge at all. So in perspective there is really no essentially good or essentially bad, it is how you CHOOSE to live your life and determine what classification you fall in, for the decision you made.

A friend can do you wrong and you think to yourself that they're bad. When really, it's not them that is so bad, it's just the choice they made. In life today we have to make so many decisions and what makes them good or bad is the choice we make. How can we determine if Jack is such a bad person? We base our decision on what we read, but were we there? No, until we walk a mile in someones shoes, we should not judge them. I think, Jack feared dying so bad, that he did what he felt he had to do to survive. As well as Ralph, he did what he had to do to survive. Two boys, two totally different decisions and it was all from choices they made. Whether it be bad or good. Only one person can judge their decision.

200 Word.....Who should survive?

The storm has hit us hard and there is only room for five of us in the life boat. Who will get to survive? This will be a very tough decision, but we do not have long to decide. First, we must pick out the good and useful people. I think that it would be a bad idea to pick out someone really dingy, that would only cause us more problems. I personally think that Dr. Dane would do very well with us, he has good health and knows how to work with boats. Bobby would be quite helpful, he has been through survival training and he can help out a lot. Mr. Blake is a hand man, he can provide all the knowledge for all the hands on things. I would have to think really hard about Mr. Newton. The only good thing about him, is that he can take care of any medical problems that may arrise. Jean Garcia is only three months old, and can not save himself. So it would only be right that we save him as well. Now that we have a crew, it is time to rush to shelter. There is absolutely no hope for us, but we must do our best to live as long as we possibly can. To survive is not a gift, but something you have to work at.

200 word report- murder-

i think that people murder for multiple reasons. some people are just plane out crazy.others just want to get revenge. when you murder someone and you get cought, you get put in jail with the death sentense. its really pointless to go and kill someone, because you will pay for it some way or another. i honestly dont think that murder is very justifiable. this is because people are still getting murdered. the murders never seem to stop. actually, the murder rate is getting worse and worse. we really need to try our hardest to bring down the murder rates, but its not going to be as easy as it seams... almost everytime you turn on the news, you here about a murder. the media is always letting us know what is going on. it is actually a good thing though. it informs us so that we know to be more cautiouse. i think that a way to prevent more murders would be to work with the buddy system. another way to prevent it would be to not talk to strangers. parents tell their children all the time to NEVER talk to strangers... but we still do. we need to watch ourselves better.

Abusive Relationships

What is an abusive relationship like? Many poeple do not recognize when they are in one. Your friends will though. If you think that your friend is being abused, it is good to know by looking for signs. These signs are or can be bruises, cuts, frequent days missed, acting skidish, withdrawn from others, sad all the time, depressed to name a few. If a friend is doing or showing these signs, it is important to get them help. These signs could be the result of physical abuse. Still, there are many forms of abuse. Mental and Emotional abuse! Both of these types really happen a lot. Guys or girls can do it. Most of the time they will just put you down to build themselves up. Supprisingly, it actually works with a lot of people. When you are a victim in an abusive relationship, it may be extremely hard to pull yourself out of it. Most people can not do it. Most people will struggle or get so depressed by it, that they take their own life or completely pull away from every loved one. They feel they can not do anything about it. It's very sad. I myself, have been in an abusive relationship. Not a physical one, but a mental and emotional one. It was bad, he controlled everything about me. He had my mind on complete lock down. I am so glad the relationship ended, however the pain and confusion has been left behind. I find myself finding it hard to trust people, friends, family, guys....it is really hard to bounce out of something like that. The next time that you see someone that needs help getting out of an abusive relationship, physical or mental, please help them.

What is abuse? Why do people abuse others? Those are some very good questions. So really, what is abuse??? Well abuse is when some one is mistreating you, but not just mistreating you. Abuse can come in many forms.
One form of abuse is physical abuse. This is where some one is hitting you so hard to where it is leaving bruses. Other ways to physically abuse some one is to burn them. This mostley happens to children under the age of twelve and women who are married to controling men. When you are getting physically abused, it is good to tell some one that can help. Although you may be scared, it is still good to get help.
Another form of abuse is mental abuse. This one is very common rightnow. The way you mentally abuse a person is you play mind games with them. You tease them in cruel and twisted ways. Its horrible!!!!! Thats what i think about abuse.

Exposition:

Its springtime, early morning, on the farm of Mr. John Arable. Newborn pigs have arrived. Fern awakes for breakfast in awe to find her pa has gone outside with an ax. Fern quickly finds out and makes a mad dash out to her pa to beg him not to kill it. She felt as though it was a terrible case of injustice to kill something because it was small. Mr. Arable decides to let Fern raise this runt and get a taste of what raising an animal is all about. And so our story begins with this small runt pig that Fern named Wilbur. Fern loves Wilbur and treats him just like a newborn baby.Rising Action:

After Wilbur has outgrown his place at Mr. Arable’s place, he has been moved to Mr. Zuckerman’s farm…where he becomes sad. Fern visits all the time to watch Wilbur. Wilbur becomes friends with many farm animals. One in particular is Charlotte, a large spider. Charlotte encourages Wilbur to perk up and be proud and she builds him up with complimentary words in her web. These words and the actions of Wilbur, bring attention and crowds of people to the farm. It also brings happiness to Wilbur

Climax:

The big fair, Wilbur and the other pigs and some farm animals are moved to the county fair for viewing. Wilbur has been brought to reality that his fate is to be sold and slaughtered.

Falling Action:

Charlotte, who Wilbur loves and adores, is getting older and her time is near. Charlotte breaks the news to Wilbur, who just does not understand why. Wilbur cries and is extremely upset about the reality that his beloved Charlotte will soon die.

Resolution:

Charlotte did not tell Wilbur everything. Wilbur sobbed and sobbed, but Charlotte had laid her bed, and Templeton wanted to eat it, but that was not going to happen. Charlotte had these wonderful things left behind….her babies. Wilbur was so excited to still have something of Charlotte and was pleased when some decided to stay with him.C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\9L2LVZ8Y\MCj03645980000[1].wmf

The Best Thing I Did This Summer

The best thing i did this summer was go to the Dominican Republic. The food was horrible, but other than that it was fun. We went horse back ridding, and it scared my cousin Erica so bad! It was hilaroius! There was also this old man that kept saying that me and Erica were his two beautiful grandaughters. Another exciting thing we did was go innertubbing in the ocean. It was so much fun! The man driving the boat got a kick out of watching us fly off. We had cookouts almost every night, but i never really finished my plate. Me and Erica decided to rent golf carts, so we were ridding around on them. We almost ran over these three people, and all we did was swerv and laugh. When it came time to leave, we were so ready to go! The heat was about to kill us! In the airport, there were two hot guys checking me and Erica out. It was awesome! I cant wait to go on another trip like that!
